What are affirmations — and why I use them in every yoga class

Before we move, we pause.
At the start of every class, I invite you to choose an affirmation. A simple, personal statement that reflects how you feel right now — or how you want to feel by the time you leave.
I am calm. I am enough. I am present. I am relaxed.
It takes about thirty seconds. But it changes the whole practice.
Why affirmations work in yoga
When you pair an affirmation with movement and breath, something shifts. The words stop being something you think and start being something you feel. A slow exhale with I am relaxed lands differently than a slow exhale alone.
It's not about forcing positivity or pretending everything is fine. It's about giving your mind a gentle direction — somewhere quiet to return to when the thoughts start rushing in.
Yours is completely unique
No two people in the room will choose the same affirmation. What you bring to your mat today is entirely your own — shaped by your week, your body, how you walked through the door.
That's what I love about it. It makes every class personal, even in a group setting.
Come and experience it for yourself
My next women's event, Flow and Florals, takes place on 24th September at Cheshire Yoga, Altrincham — a morning of gentle yoga, breathwork and autumn bouquet arranging with Floriental. Affirmations are woven into every session.
Spaces are limited and it's women only. Book your spot here: tickettailor.com/events/yogawithbijal
